Price talks up loanee MacKay to have big future

- BY JAMIE DURENT

Gavin Price reckons Elgin City loanee Daniel MacKay can have a big future in the game – if he becomes more ruthless.

MacKay has spent this season with the League 2 side from Caley Thistle and made a positive impression on Price.

The wide player has scored three times in 23 appearances for Elgin during his temporary spell at Borough Briggs. His deal was initially until January but was later extended to the end of the season.

Price is pleased with his progress this season and believes he can continue that once he returns to his parent club.

He said: “He’s got a good attitude and works hard. He’s a threat with his pace and directness.

“I think he could potentially score more goals and needs to add that to his game. (It will come) if he’s a bit braver in the final third and a bit more clinical.

“He’s certainly got a big future ahead of him if he keeps working at these things. I spoke to John Robertson and he said in reserve games he would get a good number of chances – he might only get one or two in these games. He just needs to be a bit more ruthless.”

Elgin also briefly had MacKay’s Caley Thistle team-mate Cameron Harper on a month-long loan and have recently taken teenage Dundee United defender Ross Graham on a similar deal.

Graham has featured in every game since his arrival at Borough Briggs last month.

Price added: “Ross has done great. It’ll do him good to get a really different challenge, playing against experienced strikers every week.”

While there is a youthful element to the squad, Price will be leaning on his more experienced figures.

He said: “We don’t have a lot of experience but there’s Matty Cooper, Euan Spark, Archie Macphee and Brian Cameron that have played a lot of football at a good age.

“These are guys we’ll rely on in the next few games.”
