We need more common sense
SIR, – I frequently wish the powers that be in Holyrood, Westminster and councils would read newspaper letters columns and at least stop to consider whether their own policies might not deserve a second look.
Keith Fernie is one of your correspondents – and I don’t know him! – whose contributions are always full of what seems to be obvious common sense, something sadly lacking in public bodies these days. Indeed, conversations with friends over some latest idiotic public pronouncement generally end up with “Where is the common sense?”
Highland Council’s plan for the riverside in Inverness involving
felling trees (what happened to their climate change policies?) and spending vast sums on an another unnecessary project when they are already deep in debt and unable to fund essentials in the region, leaves me wondering how on earth their councillors ever agreed to this.
As so often these days I lament the inability to know the difference between want and need.
I have to live within my limited income so the “wants” only come after the “needs” are paid for. Is this such a novel concept?
