Locos on track with plans for title challenge next season

Inverurie Locos boss Andy Low is working on “another couple of things” to get his Harlaw Park squad ready for next season.

The Railwaymen have tied attackers Neil Gauld, Andy Hunter and Chris Angus to new deals in recent weeks and manager Low, who took over from Neil Cooper earlier in the season, says they are on track for more good news.

He explained: “When I took over the job I had a look at the contract situation. A lot of them were away to run out at the end of this season.

“The guys in the team have a big part to play. I have things I want to do to put my own stamp on it, but the guys we’ve tied up are very good Highland League footballers and will have a good part to play with Locos going forward.

“I’m working on another couple of things, both within the club and out the club. It’s a case of being patient as these things take time but I’m sure I’ll get what I want out of it.”

Locos are second in the Highland League table with eight games left, but Low, whose aim is to get his team challenging for the title, accepts they are out of the hunt this season as title-rivals Brora and Fraserburgh have more fixtures still to complete.

However, he is aiming for eight wins, starting with their away trip to Keith tomorrow, and said: “The aim is to stay in the top three and, if we finish higher, it’s a bonus.

“I feel the title is between Brora and Fraserburgh. A lot of it will come down to this weekend (the Broch’s game against Brora at Bellslea). It would take something major to happen, especially for us only having eight games left, on Brora and Fraserburgh’s side for anything to give for us. I’m always quite optimistic – but that would probably be a step too far.

“My target is to win every game between now and the end of the season. If we do that it’ll be a big progression on last year’s league finish.”
