RGU and Mexico link for research project
A north-east university is working with Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) on a research project.
Robert Gordon University and UNAM are working to develop support tools for the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases in Mexico, specifically pulmonary hypertension.
Researchers at both universities’ computing schools will design a system to help diagnosis from medical images using the latest techniques such as deep learning and data science.
At the moment, there is no viable or costeffective medical imagebased solution to detect pulmonary hypertension early.
“This is an innovative partnership”
The development of such support tools will provide a significant advantage in reducing the time required to treat patients, which will in turn have a positive impact on the Mexican economy and social welfare.
Donella Beaton, associate vice-principal of business and economic development at RGU, said: “This is an innovative partnership which will foster knowledge exchange and collaborative working on an international scale, bringing far-reaching benefits in the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases in Mexico through cutting-edge research and technology development.”
RGU and UNAM have been working in partnership in a number of areas over the last two years and have signed a memorandum of understanding which helps them undertake more collaborative research projects.
