MacLennan tipped for greatness by boss Sloss

-

Midfield player Evan Maclennan is tipped by manager Stephen Sloss to make his mark with Oban Camanachd this season after missing the latter half of last season through injury.

Sloss said: “Evan sustained a knee injury playing for Lochside Rovers in the Sutherland Cup final and that ended his season prematurely.

“But he’s looked fit and sharp in pre-season training and has been promoted to our first team squad.”

“I think Evan could be one to watch.”

New trainer Gemma Campbell is winning rave reviews in the Oban camp and Sloss said: “Gemma’s work has clearly taken the lads’ conditioning up a level and this could be the fittest Oban team in many years.”

Less good news for the Red and Blacks is that international defender Lorne Dickie is poised to miss the first couple of months of the new campaign.

Another international, Daniel Cameron, has been appointed club captain for the fourth season in succession, with Gary Lord as vicecaptain.

Kyles Athletic have received a boost. Sandy Mackenzie, who did not play at all last season after intimating his retirement due to injuries and work commitments, is poised to make a comeback.

Former international defender Donald Irvine has made only limited appearances for Athletic in the past couple of years, but he has indicated that his position has changed.

Irvine has arranged a shift swap which will enable him to be available to play much more often, particularly for games in the Highland area.

Rupert Williamson has been appointed the new skipper of the Tighnabruaich team.
