Review sees loss of most Scottish events
The Scottish Athletics Hill Running Commission has reviewed its planned championships for 2020 in light of the pandemic.
The national senior and district championships were scheduled for May and June, but given that current restrictions, are likely to continue for some time, none of these will take place as planned.
The senior event will now be part of the UK trial race for November’s Lanzarote world mountain running championships.
Scotland is to host the trial and, while a venue has yet to be finalised, it will take place on an uphill-only course somewhere in the Central Belt on September 27.
The district championships will not go ahead this year as they were to be included within existing races, many of which might now not take place.
It is intended the national junior championships at Cademuir on August 15 will go ahead.
However, the early fixtures in the 2020 Scottish Athletics junior hill running league have been cancelled and are unlikely to be rescheduled.
The Inter-Counties event due in Wales on May 23 is cancelled and there’s no indication yet about another date.
The International Youth Cup, to which Scotland usually sends a team, was to take place in the Lake District in June but may now go ahead in the autumn or be cancelled.
Meanwhile all Scottish Schools athletics events for this summer have been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
The Scottish Schools Athletics Association made the decision in view of school closures and in line with advice from the Scottish Government.
