Witness appeal follows hotel break-in

- BY DAVID MACKAY

Cash and alcohol have been stolen from a north-east hotel during an overnight raid.

Thieves forced their way into the Marine Hotel in Buckie before pilfering the goods.

A cash box containing money was taken during the break-in, which was later found emptied nearby the Marine Place establishment, apart from vouchers and keys.

Yesterday police said they were unable to say what the value of the stolen goods was.

Officers have launched an appeal for witnesses and would like to speak to anyone who saw something suspicious at the time of the theft, which

happened overnight between Wednesday and Thursday.

The emptied cash box was discovered near the hotel at about 8.45am on Thursday.

Additional patrols from police have been seen across the northeast this week to reassure residents and businesses during the current lockdown.

PC Lawrence Ramsay said: “Inquiries into the incident are ongoing and I would urge anyone who has information or who may live in the area and heard or saw anything suspicious to contact police immediately.

“Although the property was secure, I would like to take this opportunity to remind business owners to review their security and make sure you keep your doors and windows locked at all times.”

Anyone with information should contact police by calling 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
