Scottish SPCA in plea for donations to help at a ‘very difficult time’
Desperate pleas have been made for vital donations to the Scottish SPCA in order to see it through the coronavirus outbreak.
The charity said it had made the difficult decision to close all of its nine animal rescue and rehoming centres, including its Drumoak base in Aberdeenshire, to the public to protect staff and visitors. But to care for the animals during the pandemic they need items to be donated.
“This is a very difficult time for us,” Aberdeenshire animal rescue and rehoming centre manager Louise Griese said.
“Our helpline is still operating and our rescue officers and inspectors are still on the ground rescuing injured and abused animals across Scotland.
“Therefore, we will still have animals coming in withnonebeingrehomed at this time. It can be a struggle to keep up with hungry mouths to feed.”
She said the charity was in need of a number of items including tins of dog and cat food.
She added: “Some of the dogs we are caring for are on a special diet so they areinneedofsensitivedry food. We also need a good supply of disinfectant.
“Hand sanitiser is another thing we desperately need, but due to the increased prices we would not expect members of the public to donate this.
“We don’t want people dropping food at our centres due to the government guidelines so we are asking that food be donated from our Amazon wishlists.”
