Coasters’ thanks in difficult times

-

Lossiemouth chairman Alan McIntosh has expressed thanks for the backing the club has received through turbulent times.

On-the-field matters have not been great for the Coasters this season, with four wins from 28 games and a secondbottom finish in the Highland League.

The early end to the season due to the coronavirus outbreak also brings added pressures, with no sources of regular income for the foreseeable future.

McIntosh, who took over as chairman earlier this year, has paid tribute however to those who have put their hands in their pockets in their time of need.

He said: “We did really well last year with 55 new sponsor boards and the players all got new sponsors.

“If the companies can’t afford it then we’re going to suffer next year. That’s a worry for us. That’s kept us going.

“Sponsorship is a big deal for us and it’s appreciated by everyone at Lossiemouth.”

McIntosh will continue to assess financial matters at Grant Park during the shutdown, with players already agreeing to suspend their wages with no football to speak of.

“We run from day-today. We’ve got two great sponsors – Grampian Furnishers and McDonald and Munro. They pump a lot of money in but it’s all the little sponsors that keep us going as well.

“There’ll still be a club. The bunch of boys we’ve got virtually play for nothing. There’s no big money.

“You’ve still got overheads and still need gate receipts to keep you going.

“But the supporters have been brilliant this year. We’ve been languishing at the bottom of the league but we get the support.

“We had 220 folk at the Lossie-Fort William game. A couple of years ago on a Wednesday night we had 47.”
