Maggie’s 500 cycle postponed due to virus
Organisers behind an ambitious 500-mile charity cycle have spoken of their disappointment after being forced to postpone.
Maggie’s 500 cycle was due to take place on September 11 to raise awareness and funds for the cancer charity’s Inverness centre at Raigmore Hospital.
The event was masterminded by former Commonwealth cyclist Kenny Riddle and Ark Estates MD Willie Gray, who are hoping to raise more than £150,000.
But due to coronavirus, the challenge will now take place next September. Around 55 people will tackle a 500-mile route through Elgin, Aviemore, Fort William, Lochcarron, Ullapool and Inverness over the course of five days.
Mr Gray added: “Myself, Kenny and the organising team have been taken aback by the reaction of the participants and support team to the news. The
Maggie’s 500 team said they are even more determined than ever to make the event a success in 2021.”
Fundraising manager Andrew Benjamin, said the charity was “humbled” by the “support and commitment” of the team.
The charity has launched a JustGiving page to raise £10,000 – search for Maggie’s Highlands.
