Think again on Dornoch proposals
SIR, – I have just read the comments by Rod Dallas (Letters, May 15) on the proposed development at Dornoch and agree wholeheartedly.
I too have played Dornoch many times over the last 50 years and I cannot believe such a completely inappropriate design can be being considered for this wonderful location on what is widely regarded as one of the top five golf courses in the country.
In my former career as a quantity surveyor I have been involved in the redevelopment of four major golf clubhouses in the north, all of which have been designed to suitably blend in with their respective locations, while also having been involved in numerous feasibility studies for Dornoch Golf club in the past and have seen plenty more attractive designs than this proposal.
This proposal can only be described as something akin to an 18th-Century brick factory in Lancashire.
I can only hope the planners see sense and send this design back to the architects with a note to think again.
