Ex-Inverness Caledonian manager dies

-

Former Inverness Caledonian manager Willie Hunter has died at the age of 80.

Hunter, who managed the former Highland League club in the late 1970s and early 1980s, was a key member of Motherwell’s Ancell Babes, a talented group which also featured Ian St John, Hunter’s close friend, and Pat Quinn, who died last month.

The Edinburghborn inside-forward scored 40 goals in 229 appearances for Motherwell between 1957 and 1967 and later played for boyhood heroes Hibernian as well as having spells in South Africa and the US.

As well as his time at Inverness Caledonian, Hunter managed Queen of the South and was assistant manager to St John at Portsmouth. He also earned three caps for Scotland.
