HUNTLY, United Auctions sold 1,570 prime sheep on August 5. New season lambs (922) ave 200.54p; to 226ppk for 42kg Beltex from Mid Fodderletter, Tomintoul, and to £111 for 62kg Texel from Corsairtly, Keith. Ewes (648) to £144 for Texels from Bardnaclavan, Thurso. “Lamb trade followed the national trend and were easier on the week. Heavy sorts still command premium prices whereas there’s a few leaner store types creeping in amongst the export weights which are hindering the overall average. Surprisingly ewe trade was every bit as dear as last week. Best pure ewes were hard to come by again as too were good lean ewes.” Other leading prices: New season lambs: Suf £109 Buckies/Rinnachat/ Latheron wheel Mains, 212p Blenoe; SufX £107.50 Mains of Paithnick, 209p Littlemill/Buckies/ Latheron wheel Mains; Tex £110 Latheron wheel Mains, 212p Latheronwheel Mains/Scarmaclate; TexX £109 Belnoe, 211p Weets/ Mains of Paithnick; Cont £108 Clatequoy, 210p Stripeside/Croftgibb; Chev £107.50 Scarmaclate, 208p Bardnaclavan; Mule £94.50, 197p Cushnie; Bel £106 Scarmclate, 210p Cairnieston; Lleyn £103 Newton, 208p Followsters; Char £107 Laighmuir/Smithy Croft, 209p Laighmuir/Conval Street; CharX £108.50, 209p Boghead.
