Consistent Kirsty shows signs of bouncing back to form
Great Britain international discus thrower Kirsty Law bounced back to form when competing in an open track and field meeting at London’s Lee Valley stadium.
The Inverness Harriers club member cleared a best of 56.74m from the six permitted throws before adding an unofficial seventh round of 57.26, which is not far short of her PB 57.79 set in 2012.
Law showed some decent consistency by producing three throws in excess of 56m before her unrecorded 57.79.
Her training partner, Olympian Jade Lally (Shaftesbury Barnet), won the competition with 58.13 Law, who represented Scotland at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and hopes to qualify for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, was disappointed with her form last month when she returned from lockdown with a sub-par performance in Germany.
She said: “I redeemed myself at Lee Valley, although my seventh round wasn’t accepted.
“I’m just glad it wasn’t a PB.
“I may have another competition this weekend and another at Loughborough on August 16 before the British championships at the beginning of September.”
Law, who is based in Loughborough, is the reigning British champion and a 12-time Scottish title-holder.
She will likely need to throw in excess of 62m to achieve a place on the Great Britain team for Japan next summer.
The Olympic qualifying window does not open until December 1 and Law is looking into the possibility of competing in Doha and Australia over the winter months in an effort to get some good performances on the board as early as possible.
