Return of live shows is music to our ears

-

From silence to sound, as some live music venues are taking optimistic steps forward to reopen.

As we adapt to life in a new way, socialising is also being done differently from what we’ve known before, with guidelines put in place to allow this to happen safely. Distance can’t break a strong connection, and this will prove even more true between the audience and performer as we adapt to enjoying future events.

As the nights get cooler, things are starting to warm up on the music front as there’s been some fantastic shows announced for later this year. The Tunnels has some excellent upcoming shows to look forward to including

James Gillespie, Elephant Sessions and Torridon to enjoy in the coming months. Also announced is The AGP Christmas Cracker, hosted by BBC Radio Scotland DJ Vic Galloway, which is, for me, the highlight of the year. Big acts such as Retro Video Club, Mickey 9s and Declan Welsh And The Decadent West are among others on the line-up at the spectacular festive bash.

At sister venue Drummonds later this year, exciting local bands Silver City Soul Revue and The Chandeliers have also recently announced gigs. Tickets can be purchased from www.skiddle.com

If you enjoy the warm crackle of a needle on a record and the audio escapism of your favourite tracks on vinyl, then you may have participated in the recent Record Store Day event.

For me, the pleasure of vinyl listening is one of life’s greatest joys and one that millions of others also relish.

This huge promotion was held this year with socially distanced queues forming to pick up limited exclusives from their favourite artists and one-off special releases. A great opportunity to support bands and the industry until we get to feel the electric atmosphere of our favourite songs playing live again.

Red Robin Records, Maiden Vinyl, Chameleon and Mo Fidelity, among others, were ready to bring some great choices to music lovers and keep the faith for collectors in a spectacular annual event. If you’d like to browse, many of the above outlets may still have releases to purchase or order online.

As the nights draw in, I’m really looking forward to venturing out to catch some shows. Until then I’ll be checking out some new music from local artists to continue some domestic discos at home this autumn.
