BURNETT Selfish displays hamper our virus fight

The mezzo-soprano from Methlick and vocal coach to the stars

-

Iwas so sad to see pictures and videos of people partying in the streets of Liverpool this week. Liverpool has the secondhighest Covid figures in Europe, so what on Earth were these people thinking?

Of course, Emily lives in Liverpool, so I’m particularly concerned about the worrying numbers there, but it’s so selfish and idiotic of those young revellers who could transmit the virus to any of their family and friends, even if they think of themselves as invincible.

Liverpool is in what’s called Tier Three, so most people are staying at home and trying their best. It only takes a few idiots who the next day turn up at the supermarket with their germs or the care home, hospital or school where they work. So these tier systems are already struggling to work.

This week we keep hearing about a two-week circuit breaker which, of course, just means lockdown without actually using the word.

The government SAGE advisers and Sir Keir Starmer are strongly suggesting this would work, but there are as many people fighting against it including, it seems, Boris Johnson.

Whatever is best for the safety of as many people as possible, in my opinion, is what should be done. Economies can come back to life but people can’t.

I’m in a business that is totally collapsing due to Covid but I’m still more concerned with people’s lives than me getting back to work.

Test and trace seems like a bit of a joke.

A while ago Gordon got a message on the NHS app saying he MAY have been in contact with someone but he may not have been, and they would let him know if he was and then he would need to isolate.

A week later he had heard nothing so we assumed he wasn’t near enough to them or long enough with them. But what was the point of that? Was he just meant to worry for a few days or stay at home from work or ignore it? He was obviously fine and hasn’t had any such texts recently, but it all seems a bit Mickey Mouse to me.

Coronavirus is not something we can avoid talking about, because right now it’s like the elephant in the room, it’s the thing dominating our every move, but sometimes we just need to escape.

My means of escape is being obsessed with all things housekeeping.

As usual I’ve been baking and cooking my way through any worries. And I’ve got a new Netflix show recommendation for you.

I can’t take credit for being the first person to suggest it because it’s already in the top 10 of mostwatched Netflix shows in the UK.

It’s called Get Organised, and is presented by a couple of ladies called Clea and Joanna, from Nashville, Tennessee. They have a home-organising business called The Home Edit and unbelievably this TV show is all about them sorting out people’s cupboards.

Now, for me, and obviously millions of others judging by the viewing figures, this is TV gold!

Of course, for many of you reading this you will think watching a show like this would be a bit like watching paint dry. But give it a go if you can. The transformations are wonderful.

There is justifiably a lot of talk just now about us looking after our mental health in these strange times. For me, having an organised desk, wardrobes or cupboards helps me to have an organised mind.

When I have everything in its place I can breathe a sigh of relief and relax.

Many of you will have been watching the Britain’s Got Talent final this week. For some reason this year’s show seemed to pass me by.

I get a bit fed up with all those magicians who make the judges guess numbers or manage to supposedly read their minds. I feel like I’ve seen it all now, and I’m not sure what act could come on and blow me away.

I feel guilty that I haven’t even watched the winning act Jon Courtenay. Congratulations to him though. I saw him interviewed somewhere and he seemed like a nice guy, so I hope winning in the year of a pandemic doesn’t spoil his chances of making it big.

So who knows, we might all be locked up again by this time next week.

Whatever happens, look after yourselves.

Have a good week,

Yvie X
