Hammers time it just right to salvage point against Tottenham

-

West Ham ruined Gareth B ale’ s return to the Tottenham team as they scored three goals in the final eight minutes to steal a 3-3 draw in north London.

The Hammers were dead and buried after Spurs raced into a 3- 0 lead after just 16 minutes as Son Heung-min’ s opener after 45 seconds and Harry Kane’s double put them in total control.

They were still winning 3-0 when Bale came on as a 72nd-minute substitute but it all went wrong at the end as Manuel Lanz in i’ s stunning stoppage-time strike completed a comeback started by Fa bi an Balbuena and a Davinson Sanchez own goal.

The result will leave Jose Mourinho utterly sick as they threw away two points for the second successive home game and leaves them unable to impose themselves on the early Premier League table.

For West Ham, the comeback continued a promising start to the campaign following good wins over Wolves and Leicester.

Elsewhere yesterday, substitute Alexis Mac Allister smashed home a 90th-minute equaliser as Brighton rescued a deserved 1-1 derby draw at Crystal Palace.

With Albion on the verge off an unjust defeat to bitter rivals, Argentina midfielder Mac Allister picked a timely moment to claim his maiden Premier League goal by firing in from the edge of the box.

Wilfried Zaha had looked se t to be the Seagulls’ nemesis once again by putting the Eagles on course for victory with a first- half penalty.

The 19th-minute spotkick, awarded after Tariq Lamptey was adjudged to have fouled Michy Batshuayi, was the Eagles’ only attempt at goal all afternoon and Zaha’s seventh strike in 13 outings against Albion.

Brighton ended the match a man down after captain Lewis Dunk was deservedly shown a straight red card for a two-footed lunge at Gary Cahill while attempting to force home a dramatic injury-time winner.

Graham Potter’s side, who announced the signing of former England forward Danny Welbeck ahead of kickoff, controlled possession in south London but lacked a cutting edge until Ma c Allister eventually intervened.

In addition to denying Palace all-important bragging rights, the late leveller moved Albion onto four points from five matches, with their opponents three better off.

At Bramall Lane, Billy Sharp came off the bench to grab a late equaliser from the penalty spot to salvage a point for Sheffield United against Fulham, who missed a spot kick of their own.

In last night’s evening match, Ross Barkley struck a 91 st- minute winner as Aston Villa defeated Leicester City 1- 0 at the King Power Stadium to ensure their 100% start to the season continued. Dean Smith’s men are one point behind Everton at the top having played one game fewer.
