Clark’s on her marks to join elite athletics academy in home city

-

Zoey Clark heads a list of 23 athletes inducted into the Aberdeen AAC Academy for 2020-2021.

Academy athletes are entitled to reduced rates for physiotherapy and massage therapy services, access to informative seminars and activities, and may also receive subsidised access to Aberdeen Sports Village or assistance with travel to domestic championships.

Clark is by far the highest profile member of the academy, having represented Scotland at the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games.

She has also been a key member of the Great Britain 4x400m relay squad for the past three years, winning medals at world and European level.

There’s little doubt she would have been competing at this year’s Tokyo Olympics, had the Games gone ahead and she will be in the frame for selection again in 2021.

The aim of the academy is not only to support athletes of Clark’s calibre but also to help more Aberdeen AAC members achieve selection for major international matches.

A number of other internationals and senior Scottish champions are also in the academy, including 400m runner Kelsey Stewart, sprinter Roisin Harrison, middle distance and cross country runner Michael Ferguson, sprint hurdler Jane Davidson and para athlete Ian Boyd.

The full Academy membership is: Rhia Badial, Iain Boyd, Zoey Clark, Kai Crawford, Jane Davidson, Timi Fatona, Tobi Fatona, Robbie Farq uh ar, Michael Ferguson, Tamsin Fowlie, Sam Griffin, Roisin Harrison, Naomi Lang, Rebecca Ma the son, Angela McAuslan- Kelly, James McIntosh, Hamish McKay, Georgia Morrison, Carmen Neat, Caitlin Purcell, Kirsty Purcell, Kelsey Stewart and Lewis Watt.

The academy partners include Aberdeen Sports Village , SPEAR Physiotherapy and Aberdeen Sports Massage.
