One Ruler should have measure of rivals
ONE RULER can provide Charlie Appleby with a first victory in the Vertem Futurity Trophy at Doncaster.
The Newmarket handler is on the lookout for a colt to fill the shoes of his recently-retired stable stars Pinatubo and Ghaiyyath, and while One Ruler still has a way to go to match that pair’s achievements, he is an exciting prospect.
Runner-up to subsequent
Group Three winner Etonian on his Sandown debut in July, the Dubawi colt returned to the Esher venue the following month, beating a useful sort this time in Maximal.
One Ruler could finish only third when favourite for the Flying Scotsman Stakes at Doncaster next time but that does not look a bad effort with winner New Mandate since striking gold in the Royal Lodge.
Appleby’s charge looked to benefit from a step up to a mile and a slightly easier surface when impressing in Ne w m a r k e t ’ s Autumn Stakes a couple of weeks ago, and should prove hard to beat as he steps up to Group One level.
