North-east towns hit by another gas failure

Reconnection time still unclear – but help for vulnerable

- CHRIS MACLENNAN

Residents in Keith and Huntly were left without a gas supply again. Scottish Gas Networks (SGN) reported that properties in both towns have no gas, with engineers on-site investigating the cause of the issues.

This outage comes just a month after “major disruption” left 4,500 homes in Keith and Huntly without gas heating and hot water for more than a day. This was during one of the coldest spells of the year. SGN has apologised to residents following this outage.

The company revealed it does not know how long it will take to restore supplies in both towns and they are contacting the most vulnerable and those on the Priority Services Register to offer extra support. Supply to the local hospital and care homes has since been restored.

SGN earlier apologised for the inconvenience stating: “We know it’s not easy being without your gas supply and we’re extremely sorry for this disruption. We’ll be doing all we can to restore everyone’s supplies as soon as possible.”

At 7pm last night, SGN said: “Thank you to Huntly and Keith residents for your continued patience and support while you’ve been without gas in the cold weather today.

“While we’ve been able to restore gas supplies to the local hospital and care homes, gas is still not available for the majority of affected properties.

“In the meantime, it’s important your gas supply remains off at the meter until we tell you to turn it back on either via a second letter from us, or on this website. Our engineers will continue working through the night and we’re aiming for everyone to be allowed to switch gas supplies back on tomorrow.

“If you need any extra help while you’re without your supply, you can reach us on live chat, text us on 07490 077 649 or call us on 0800 912 1717.”

SGN will be updating its website with information as soon as it becomes available with the next update expected at 9.30am today.

“Engineers will work through the night
