Extra custard not such a sweet idea

-

Sir, – The story about the lads at Rhynie wanting to have custard restored to their school’s menu (The Press and Journal, April 15) reminded me of an episode at my primary in Cults, Aberdeen, in the late 1950s.

The custard for pudding used to arrive in a large canister from a central kitchen somewhere, it must have held a gallon.

One day by mistake, an extra canister was delivered, so as well as seconds, thirds, fourths, and fifths of custard were possible, and taken.

A very queasy lad spent the rest of the afternoon learning a lesson the teacher wasn’t giving.

So, Rhynie lads, be careful what you wish for.
