Bible verse food for thought over bowler’s plight
Sir, – Ollie Robinson plays cricket for Sussex. He’s a fast bowler. He’s 27 years old. Ollie made his debut for England against NZ this month. He’s now suspended from international cricket.
Why? He made some unsavoury racist and sexist tweets when he was in his late teens.
An investigation is certainly justified.
My Chambers dictionary (2006) describes the word used as “derog, now esp offensive”. But to be suspended after the highlight of his career to date – being selected to play for England?
Don’t get me wrong.
There may indeed be a problem with the manner in which Ollie Robinson views our multi-spectrum world. But innocent till proven guilty – Magna Carta and all that?
The guy was 18 or
19 when he made the comments. Investigate what has happened since? Surely – and condemn or forgive accordingly.
But the Christian Bible, as always, provides some thoughtful and wise advice: He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone...” (John, Ch8 – KJV) Bill Maxwell,
