MY LIFE AMY PAPIRANSKY

-

Since making the final of the BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year, Amy Papiransky has continued to carve her name in the Scottish music scene. Originally from Keith and now living in Glasgow, Amy – a music teacher by trade – has been writing and recording her own material for the last eight years. She has gained big support from her “idol” KT Tunstall and her new single Summertime Blues was released on June 4.

First record bought?

Eye to the Telescope by KT Tunstall. Book that changed your life? Creative Visualisation – Shakti Gawain. If you haven’t read this already, go for it! Most expensive purchase? My flat.

First job?

At the age of 16 I started teaching younger children how to play the piano, privately at home. I am now a high school music teacher.

Favourite time of day?

When the school bell rings at 2.45pm on a Friday. Nah, not really, probably bedtime.

Last time you cried?

Two nights ago after watching E.T. When the wee guy heads off back to space I’m in floods.

Worst fashion faux pas?

Looking back on photos of myself with crocs and socks gives me the serious fear.

Favourite holiday destination?

I’m a foodie, so anywhere in Italy, really.

Idea of holiday hell?

Camping anywhere in Australia. My fear of snakes and spiders is very real! Biggest phobia?

Spiders, spiders and spiders.

What are you watching on TV?

Glow Up on BBC. I love it.

Favourite movie?

The Iron Giant (1999). Always has been, always will be.

How do you relax?

In the bath or in the sunshine (when we get it) with an Aperol Spritz in hand listening to music.

Best advice you’ve been given?

“Love many, trust few, always paddle your own canoe” – wise words from mum Papiransky.

Who you last spoke to on the phone?

Scottish Power unfortunately.

First thing you did this morning?

Put my alarm on snooze.

Worst mistake?

Trying to escape from being grounded by jumping out of my bathroom window head-first aged eight – my poor teeth haven’t been straight since.

Your inspiration?

KT Tunstall’s musical talent. I love her music; her voice and lyrics are beautiful.

Would most like to meet?

I’d like to sit down for a pint with Sir David Attenborough, 100%.

Childhood crush?

Zac Efron… let’s leave that there.

Weirdest fan gift (or present you’ve received)?

Not weird, more lovely – someone once gave me a framed collage made from my album art work after a gig. It is so cool!

Quirky habits?

Randomly searching for the most expensive properties to stay in on Airbnb.

Worst meal?

Liver, or anything that has even touched coriander.

What makes you laugh?

Anything by Ricky Gervais. His writing is unbelievable.

Most embarrassing moment?

I once tripped up a poor man from behind in Topshop thinking it was my dad. He decked it. I was mortified! Sean Connery or Daniel Craig?

Big Sean.

Beauty is?

True acts of kindness.
