DONS ADD SEAGULLS MIDFIELDER ON LOAN WITH GURR NEXTUP

-

Brighton midfielder Teddy Jenks has agreed to join Aberdeen on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old had several other offers, including from the English Championship, but has opted to move to Pittodrie after visiting Cormack Park on Thursday.

Jenks, who has been capped by England at U17 and U16 level, will become new boss Stephen Glass’s fourth signing following the arrival of Celtic captain Scott Brown, Motherwell skipper Declan Gallagher and Livingston forward Jay Emmanuel Thomas.

The Dons are also understood to have agreed a fee with Major League Soccer for Houston Dynamo striker Christian Ramirez, and are now hoping to secure a work permit to allow the 30-year-old to make the move to the Reds. Atlanta United right-back Jack Gurr is also expected to complete a loan move.

Attacking midfielder Jenks, above, scored eight goals in 23 appearances for Brighton in Premier League 2 last season.

He made his debut for Brighton in a 3-1 Carabao Cup home defeat against Aston Villa in September 2019.

The Dons are set to discover their Scottish Premiership fixtures tomorrow before finding out their opening opponent in the Europa Conference League when the draw is made on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Reds defender Kieran Ngwenya has made his international debut for Malawi in their friendly against Tanzania.

Ngwenya, who qualifies to play for Malawi through his father, was named in the starting line-up for the Flames’ game in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

The left-back made two substitute appearances for the Dons this season in the Premiership.

Ngwenya spent the last two months of the season on loan at League One side Cove Rangers. He made seven appearances for Paul Hartley’s side and played in their playoff fixtures against Airdrieonians.

“It came up as a shock to me when the call-up came,” he told the Malawi FA website last week. “It is an honour to be considered for national team duty, so I took the opportunity. This is great for me to be involved with the national team. But I also think it is really a big thing to represent your country in anything.

“When I play, I want to help the team to more success. I will give out my all and work hard for the team. People should expect energy and commitment.”
