ROCK ROSE WARMS UP WINTER

Some may be predicting a winter of discontent but Rock Rose

Gin is anticipating extreme contentment despite the cooler weather. The reason? The Scottish distillery has just released its Rock Rose Winter Edition 2021.

A juniper-led, earthy gin featuring fragrant pine notes, this iteration has been created with the thought of returning to a roaring fire after a bracing winter walk, with the cocktail evening starting early on those dark nights. The original Rock Rose taste notes have been pared back a little to make way for the earthy, citrusy notes of spruce tips to sparkle.

The 41.5% ABV gin costs £37.50 for a 70cl ceramic bottle or just £30 for a unique refill pouch, which is fully recyclable.

The recommended perfect serve for Rock Rose Winter Edition gin is with tonic and garnished with the Rock Rose “Winter Walk”’ liquid garnish (£12) or topped with toasted sage or a slice of apple.

Rock Rose gins are created and distilled by Dunnet Bay Distillers on the most northerly coast of mainland Scotland. The company is the brainchild of a husband-and-wife team and is founded on an ethos of sustainability, using many locally foraged and home-grown botanicals.

Rock Rose Winter Edition, along with all the other gins in the core range, is also available to members of the Refill Rewards Club.

COMMUNITY DISTILLERY FIRST

The world’s first 100% community-owned distillery, GlenWyvis Distillery, has launched its first-ever whisky.

Some 3,600 bottles of the three-year-old GlenWyvis Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky have been allocated to GlenWyvis Distillery shareholders, whose investment enabled the build and development of the distillery.

A further 2,000 bottles were available to pre-order in October 2020 and sold out almost immediately. As with all of GlenWyvis Distillery’s online sales, 5% of the purchase price went to the GlenWyvis Community Benefit Fund. A total of 200 bottles will also be available at selected retailers and onpremises trade throughout Scotland. GlenWyvis Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the first whisky to be produced in Dingwall in almost 100 years, with the last whisky distillery, Ben Wyvis, closing its doors in 1926.

Matthew Farmer, distillery manager at GlenWyvis, said: “A hundred years on from the last whisky being made in Dingwall, we are so excited to be launching GlenWyvis Distillery’s first whisky. Our journey over the past few years and the creation of GlenWyvis Distillery is thanks to our many shareholders, so it is only fitting that they will be among the first to try our first whisky.”
