Native Angel set to soar

-

Native Angel looks a winner waiting to happen and can oblige at the second time of asking at Newcastle. The Hugo Palmer-trained filly made an encouraging start to her career at Lingfield last month, where she was sent off at 14-1 in a seven-furlong novice affair.

Not the quickest away and a bit keen thereafter, she was green and had to be ridden along when things started to hot up.

But once the penny did drop, she came home strongly to finish just a neck adrift of Criollo, who had the benefit of a prior run.

With that under her belt, the daughter of Zoffany should prove hard to beat in the MansionBet Beaten By A Head Median Auction Maiden Stakes.

Athmad should make his presence felt in the Betway Handicap.

Ruth Carr’s six-year-old is seen to maximum effect at Wolverhampton, where he has five wins from 10 visits, but knows his way around this Gosforth Park circuit too, running out victorious in August last year.

A consistent sort, he returned to winning ways at his favourite track last time out, but his mark of 81 is still 1lb lower than his Newcastle win.

I Know How might find his turn coming again in the Read Katie Walsh On Betway Insider Handicap.

A course and distance scorer in January last year, he has been out of luck since. However, his third at Southwell earlier this month was much more encouraging, as he outran odds of 80-1 in being beaten just over two lengths.

Julie Camacho’s charge remains on the same mark, which is 6lb lower than that last win here. He merits an interest.

Sammy Sunshine is an interesting contender in the MansionBet Proud Partners Of AWC Handicap.

Now with the in-form Rebecca Menzies in the colours of The Horse Watchers, the Sea The Moon filly had her last run for Ralph Beckett at Southwell on New Year’s Day.

She found herself at the rear of the field from her wide draw and caught the eye with the way she finished off her race. It would be no surprise if there is some mileage in her on the all-weather, where she has only had four outings.

Menzies can also strike at Carlisle as You Some Boy is on quite a roll and taken to bring up a four-timer in the Cambridge Handicap Hurdle.

He kicked off his winning run off a lowly mark of 82 at Newcastle in December and has since triumphed twice at Wetherby, defying an 8lb hike on the first occasion and an additional 4lb last time.

Now off a mark of 103, he clearly has to progress again, but the manner of his victories suggest he could still have a bit in the locker.

Silver Flyer impressed on his debut under rules and can build on that in the Brown Novices’ Hurdle.

Winner of an Irish point-to-point last October, the six-year-old was snapped up for £50,000 by Donald McCain later that month and then made his first start for the yard at Catterick just after Christmas.

Racing over just short of two and a half miles, Silver Flyer perhaps did not face the strongest field, but could do no more than win and his stylish nine-length verdict looked hugely promising for his future hopes.

McCain keeps him at that trip here and while Silver Flyer must shoulder a penalty, he looks a horse very much on the up.
