Brexit dividend as UK led way with vaccination

- Mhairi E Rennie, Finlayson Street, Fraserburgh.

Sir, – William McLeod (Letters, February 19) poses the question to P&J readers about the Brexit dividend, so perhaps I can enlighten him.

Firstly, the United Kingdom was able to undertake its own vaccination procurement process in dealing with the virus. This allowed the UK to get ahead of the game and it was one of the first countries to start vaccinating its people.

Had we been in the EU we would have had to follow their process and we know how slow the EU were at getting their vaccination programmes up and running compared to the UK.

Due to the successful vaccination process, this allowed our economy to bounce back a lot quicker than the rest of Europe. Indeed the UK has the leading growth of any of the G7.

With the impact that the virus had on different economies, should any country need a bailout from the EU, the golden goose will no longer be required to stump up. That in itself brings a huge benefit to the UK finances

These have just been the benefits in the past couple of years since we left the EU, others will follow as we rid ourselves of unnecessary EU regulations and start to see the impacts of the new trade deals which the UK has signed since leaving.
