EVs set to match petrol car cost by 2027

-

News this week that the price of electric vehicles is likely to drop has been welcomed by motoring organisations.

Despite the UK Government cutting EV grants, it seems prices are still set to fall as predicted by analysts.

Figures for Aberdeen and the shire show a steady uptake in both electric and hybrid vehicles, reflecting drivers’ increased faith in range and charging capabilities. Pure EVs made up 9.55% of new registrations in January 2022, with hybrids at 22.79% (616 vehicles), up from 7.23% in January 2021.

Across the UK, hybrids captured 27% of new registrations with pure EVs at 13%.

This upward trend is likely to continue and prices are expected to reach parity with petrol and diesel cars by 2027.

Richard Falconer, managing director of Co Wheels, a community car-sharing and vehicle hire club, said: “This is great news. Not only will it benefit drivers’ pockets, but more EVs on our streets will do our environment the world of good.

“The ban on new diesel and petrol cars in the UK may be set for 2030, but we already have a wide range of electric vehicles for customers to hire.”
