TANGERINES TAKE WIN TO BOOST EURO HOPES

-

Dylan Levitt’s deflected goal earned Dundee United a 1-0 victory over Motherwell which puts them in a commanding position for a European place.

The on-loan Manchester United midfielder struck his third goal in five matches in the 37th minute at Tannadice.

The win puts United four points and nine goals ahead of Motherwell in the race for the two Europa Conference League spots with three games left of the cinch Premiership season.

Motherwell’s European chances now realistically rely on them beating Ross County next Saturday, which would move them into fifth.

They can take some encouragement from their performance – they hit the frame of the goal twice in the first half and pushed until the end and will have Kevin van Veen back from suspension in Dingwall.

• Greg Kiltie’s precise second-half finish proved to be the winner as St Mirren claimed a priceless 1-0 victory over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.

The midfielder steered home Alex Greive’s cutback to settle a tight contest as they move to the brink of safety, eight points clear of the cinch Premiership relegation playoff spot with three games remaining.

St Johnstone, meanwhile, were unable to build on consecutive home victories and failed to have a shot on target in a poor performance that leaves them marooned in 11th spot.

• Livingston seized the initiative in the race to finish seventh in the cinch Premiership thanks to a 1-0 victory over Hibernian.

The Lions leapfrogged their visitors in the table thanks to Scott Pittman’s strike early in the second half.

Hibernian dominated possession and enjoyed twice as many shots on goal as their hosts.

But they failed to register a single attempt on target as caretaker manager David Gray suffered his first defeat in charge of the capital outfit.
