Team’ s away win with puppy rescue
Adog is lucky to be alive after it was rescued from a dangerous road by a Highland League team. Pomeranian-pug Foxy was saved from being run over on the A96 by Turriff United after they saw the puppy charging into the path of oncoming traffic.
United were travelling on the team bus on the way back from their match at Nairn County on Saturday when the drama unfolded just east of Elgin.
They stopped to help the animal, and United boss Dean Donaldson and firstteam coach Graeme Taylor took it upon themselves to grab Foxy, putting their own lives at risk.
After being reunited with Foxy following a social media appeal by the club, grateful owner Martha Stewart said: “After hearing from the Turriff manager about her running around on the road we know how lucky we are to have her home unscathed. We’re so grateful for what they’ve done. I want to thank the football team for looking after her.”
Mr Donaldson said: “We were heading back from Nairn and we saw this poor dog dodging traffic.
“We gasped a few times as it looked as if the dog was going to be run over.
“Graeme and I jumped off the bus and about 10 minutes later we managed to get her.
“I was dodging cars myself but we had to do something or the poor soul would have died otherwise.”
United shared pictures of the dog on their social media channels on Saturday night in a bid to trace the owner.
And after spending the night with the Turriff boss and his family, the dog was reunited with Martha yesterday.
Martha, who lives in Coxton near Lhanbryde, added: “It was a huge relief to get her back.
“We have no idea how she managed to get out but we think she must have gotten a fright from the fireworks.
