Lanterns procession will light up Aboyne

-

A procession of animalshaped willow lanterns will weave their way through the streets of Aboyne this Saturday.

Residents from across Deeside have been making the handmade lanterns to mark bonfire season, and do something in addition to fireworks.

It is organised by the Aboyne Artist in Residence community project, which aims to deliver events and activities to bring the local community together and boost their wellbeing.

The lantern parade will set off from the Aboyne Community Shed and head to the village green, via Ballater Road, at 6.30pm on November 12.

Community volunteer Sintija Sviklane said the workshops over the October holidays had proved very popular.

She said: “The workshops create a space for people to participate.

“I think it’s important when it’s dark and cold outside, especially in places which are remote and there are not so many things going on.”
