Bridge reopens after damage by floods

Four of the six bridges in the King Edward area damaged by floods have now reopened.

The Mill of Balmaud Bridge on the U12S road near Strocherie is the fourth to be officially back in use.

Works to repair all six bridges – which were destroyed in floods in September 2019 – began in August last year.

Locals put pressure on Aberdeenshire Council to move forward with the repairs as they were faced with lengthy detours with the bridges out of action.

Bridge of Fortrie reopened a year ago and has since been improved with an increased waterway area and steel sheet piling to protect it from future extreme weather.

The North Litterty crossing, near Fintry, and Bruntyards Bridge both reopened this October. Millcroft Bridge on the U12S at Plaidy will be the next to reopen.

In a post on Facebook, Aberdeenshire Council said: “We would like to thank all residents and businesses impacted by the closures for their patience and understanding as we do everything we can to reconnect this community.”
