Powering the energy transition

Blending technology and training to address energy sector changes. 3t Energy Group is harnessing the power of technology to transform training and learning competence management across the global energy sector

- ■ Annabel Leckenby, marketing director at 3t Energy Group.

In line with the transition to clean energy solutions the demand for marketleading safety skills and technical training is stronger than ever. There’s also an urgent requirement for those in the energy industry to identify transferrable skills, training opportunities and deliver learning in a safe and engaging environment.

Figures from the pathway set out in the IEA’s Net Zero by 2050 – A Roadmap for the Global Energy Sector report suggests that worldwide there will be an estimated 14 million new jobs generated in energy supply by 2030, with around five million jobs being lost. This poses a real opportunity for companies to look at existing skills and competencies to support both the upskilling and reskilling of workforces.

This is where the expertise of 3t Energy Group and its specialist companies can support. Together, AIS Survivex, the UK’s largest training provider across the energy sector; 3t Transform, a developer of software that manages employee compliance, competency and learning; as well as Drilling Systems, the world’s number one simulator technology provider; are delivering the benefits of blended learning for the best learning outcomes.

3t Energy Group combines an impressive and unique offering of technology, software, training know-how and decades of practical knowledge to develop bespoke training packages that meet the needs of an organisation. Enabling HR, training and competency teams to spend their time more efficiently – confident that their employees are trained to the highest levels of safety and compliance.

To support individuals in the energy transition, AIS Survivex offers accessible, demand-driven courses. This includes its Global Wind Organisation (GWO) basic safety training package, aimed at attracting new talent to the market. The package combines training for five mandatory GWO courses which, upon completion, enables delegates to start a career in the renewables and wind energy industries.

It has also developed a wide range of courses for those transitioning from other sectors including oil and gas. In addition, AIS Survivex is an El cas approved training provider committed to helping ex-forces personnel transfer their skills to the energy sector.

When this expertise and in-person training is blended with the virtual reality training and software developed by 3t Transform a platform for a zero-harm training environment is created, and knowledge retention is further enhanced.

In these virtual environments, individuals are able to practise techniques and build muscle memory, as well as get to grips with the space in which they will be working. This can have the added benefit of trainees realising whether or not they would be suited to working at height for example.

In addition to its virtual reality and digital twin technology, 3t Transform has developed a range of highly configurable software solutions which can effectively manage employee compliance. Again, this highlights the employees that have the necessary skills to transition to clean energy operations.

This blended learning approach is also being adopted with the simulator training that Drilling Systems specialises in. Most recently Drilling Systems’ advanced simulator technology has been harnessed by Robert Gordon University to deliver a training course for crews preparing for a Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) well.

Crews benefited from working together in a hands-on simulated experience, which improved their understanding of MPD operations and how it differs from conventional drilling operations, all in a safe environment.

Through technology, training, learning and competency management 3t Energy Group and its companies are providing an exciting opportunity to develop and accelerate sustainable energy careers for existing and future employees.

We are true leaders when it comes to cuttingedge training and learning in the energy sector. We are enabling the wider industry to build a worldclass energy workforce that’s well equipped to meet the demands of the future industry.

We offer the very best-in-class training experiences and facilities, and immersive learning solutions and technologies for our customers and clients across the world. We are proud to pave the way for a safer, smarter and more efficient workforce of the future.
