Not just for Xmas: Bunnies Clare and Katie need a home

Two giant rabbits are looking for their forever home after nearly 300 days in care.

Clare and Katie have been looked after by the Scottish SPCA since their owner died.

The rabbits struggled to adapt initially, but have now settled into a routine and could be a “fantastic addition” to the right family.

The animals are at the charity’s rehoming centre at Drumoak. They need to be rehomed together and owners will need to be experienced and patient.

Centre manager Louise Griese said: “Clare and Katie came into our care after their owner sadly passed away.

“They were loved so much in their previous home that they initially didn’t cope well with the change in environment when they came to our centre.

“With a regular routine and their own room, they have now settled well.

“We would love to find them an experienced and patient home to call their own.”

Ms Griese stressed that both rabbits have particular needs and interests to be taken into consideration.

“Clare will happily eat treats out of your hand and enjoys head strokes, whereas Katie would rather bop you with her nose until you move.

“They both love eating lots of fresh fruit and veggies.

“Katie and Clare are used to living indoors. They will require a very large area so that they have room to exhibit all of their natural behaviours.

“Despite their size, they are quite sensitive creatures, and their new owners will need to continue to build their confidence.”

The charity believes they would thrive in a home without other rabbits, and one with older children.

Ms Greise added: “Katie and Clare would make a fantastic addition to the right family.”

In June, the Scottish SPCA warned rehoming centres are nearing capacity as they urged the public to consider rehoming an animal for them.

Those interested in giving Clare and Katie a new home can apply on the Scottish SPCA website.
