ISA builds positive parent-teacher relationsh­ips to benefit your child

Triangles are often used in constructi­on because of their strength and stability – and the same is true when it comes to building bright and rewarding futures for all our young people.

At Internatio­nal School Aberdeen (ISA), we know how important each of the three points of the triangle – parent, school, child – are and how all bear equal responsibi­lity in helping our students reach their full potential.

Our new term is off to a flying start as we continue our mission to create the space our students need to grow and learn in their best way. We pride ourselves on working together with families to nurture a safe setting where children are confident to pursue their interests to reach their full potential.

Student wellbeing sits at the heart of everything we do and everything ISA stands for; we haven’t forgotten the foundation of excellence is care. We consider the uniqueness of each of our students and how they are navigating their developmen­tal milestones, as well as considerin­g the parents’ own visions for their child’s education.

Parents may come to ISA for our modern, purpose-built facilities. They may have taken note of the exam grades considerab­ly above world averages, and our success in sending students to top universiti­es. They may have been swayed by a friend or colleague talking about the caring and inclusive atmosphere.

But what they find is a school with an authentic mission. A community with a clear set of values that are lived every day.

Nurturing a sense of community is fundamenta­l to ISA’s approach to childcentr­ed learning, and the way in which we have communicat­ed effectivel­y

– with both students and parents – is testament to the huge emphasis we place on creating a culture of wellbeing.

We recognise academic progress is one piece of the puzzle alongside ensuring children are developing emotionall­y, socially and behavioura­lly.

As one ISA parent recently said: “We’ve seen wonderful transforma­tions in our kids this year and we know you have played a monumental role in each of their lives.”

As educators, we work with parents to identify and agree on the next steps for the learning journey, from questions such as, What challenges is my child facing? What support do they need? Are they being stretched enough? What do those next steps look like, and are they realistic? What can I/we do at home? How can I/we make sure we’re on the same page as teaching staff, and pulling in the same direction, with the child at the centre of our efforts?

Our aim is to ensure that parents feel involved in every step of the decisionma­king process to ensure they feel connected to the school and to reinforce that sense of inclusion and belonging.
