Castle. Originally called just Lochnagar, after the nearby mountain, it was renamed after a royal visit in 1848.

MAN VERSUS ABERDEEN

Man Versus Food star Adam Richman showcased Aberdeen as part of his new Food Network UK show, Adam Richman Eats Britain. The foodie star stopped by a number of well-known food and drink producers and establishments in Aberdeen for the episode, which has just recently aired.

Driving a Mini Cooper emblazoned with the US flag, he ran the rule over The Silver Darling, Vovem Meat and Liquor, the Tilly Butcher and The Bread Maker.

He sampled such culinary delights as Aberdeen Angus rib-eye steaks, Cullen skink and homemade pies at the Tilly Butcher.

But the question on everyone’s lips, of course, was what would the TV star make of Aberdeen’s most famous treat, the rowie/buttery?

His thoughts on The Bread Maker’s rowies on Rosemount Viaduct? “One thing I love, is that when you see something made well, you already start eating with your eyes,” he said.

“It’s crazy, it’s like crispy on the bottom, flaky on the top and chewy in the centre. It’s delicious.”

MORAY CUP REVIVAL ‘UNLIKELY’

Lastly, hopes were dashed for the possible return of one of the north-east of Scotland’s most unusual flavours.

The long-lost Moray Cup has been missing from store shelves since it was discontinued in 2017.

Roger White, the chief executive of Irn-Bru makers AG Barr, told the P&J recently that his company is unlikely to resurrect the bright red fruit-flavour drink any time soon when asked.

He was speaking as AG Barr delivered the last set of results under his leadership, before he steps down as CEO at the end of next month.
