Promoted sides face off in Championship

-

There’s a crunch game in the McBookie.com Championship tomorrow when the two already promoted sides, Islavale and Banks o’ Dee JFC, face off at Simpson Park.

Both share the same points but the hosts, with three to play as opposed to the Aberdeen’s club’s two and a superior goaldifference, are in the driving seat.

This season has seen a turnaround for the Keith club. Player and co-boss Robert Scott said: “I came in at the tail end of last season and we had a decent run which took us to mid-table but we had a really tight squad in terms of numbers.

“Myself and Jim Brindle revamped things and brought a few boys in and we now have a squad of 21 who all turn up for training regularly and competition for places is really healthy.

“We took a couple of coach loads of supporters to Maud on Sunday when we lifted the Elginshire Cup against Deveronside and we’re hoping for the same again tomorrow for one final push.

“We’ve 15 of the lads signed up for next season and there’s been interest from the Highland League in a couple of our players. But if that’s the case and they move on, they do so with our blessing and it shows we’ve done our job.

“We rested a few boys against Deveronside in the league on Tuesday and me, Sam Mair and Ricky Henderson came in.”

Spain Park boss Mark Robb knows it’s a mustwin game for his side.

He said: “We have to win both tomorrow and against Deveronside and hope they slip up somewhere unless we beat them 10-0, which isn’t going to happen.

“The main objective was getting promotion, which we’ve achieved, and it’ll be great for the boys to be getting the experience of playing in the Premier League every week as they try to progress to the first team in the Highland League.”

As with the hosts, Dee have everyone available.
