Son’ s epic golf fundraiser in honour of dad

- BY JENNA SCOTT

To mark the fifth anniversary of his dad’s death, 31-yearold Euan McIntosh completed 100 holes – the equivalent of five and a half rounds – in one day on Murcar Links.

The keen golfer believes he raked in an impressive £300 from the Murcar event alone for Macmillan Cancer Support in his dad’s memory.

As a teenager, Euan spent countless evenings teeing off with his father, Colin.

They would practise in preparation for junior competitions but Euan was always determined to beat his dad – who he considered one of his closest friends.

Commitments in later life got in the way of his passion but Colin’s passing in 2019 inspired him to return to the sport after 10 years.

“A lot of the time we spent together was in the evenings after school when we’d go out and practise,” said Euan, from Ellon.

“There’s lots of fond memories in general; there’s not really one that sticks out.

“I remember always trying to beat my dad and eventually I did; it was just a friendly competition between the two of us.”

He began his Murcar challenge at 5am and took his final shot at around 9pm with his mother, sister and various club members cheering him on.

“Just to see a group of people wrapped around the green was phenomenal,” said Euan.

Explaining why he raised money for Macmillan Euan said: “Once dad had passed my mum had a lot of questions trying to deal with the estate and – just with my mum’s general welfare and wellbeing too – Macmillan were extremely helpful on that front.

“I feel indebted to them for a lot of what they did and helped and provided.

“It’s a great sense of satisfaction knowing that you’re giving back.”

The idea came to him at another golf contest earlier this year when he began reminiscing about his dad.

“Me being me, I wanted to go for the 100 holes as a go big or go home sort of thing and everything transpired from there,” he said.

By late February he was spending his weekends playing up to three rounds of golf a day.

“It was a massive commitment, but I won’t say it will be the last one.

“I’d do it again without a doubt,” he said.
