Pilot and passenger have lucky escape in plane crash
Aviation: Dramatic emergency landing on private strip ended nose down
This dramatic image shows the aftermath of a plane crash in the north-east.
The pilot crashed near Alford after attempting an emergency landing.
The plane landed half a mile north-west of the Guise of Tough, on a private landing strip, but tipped over nose down.
As emergency services scrambled to the scene, an intrigued local resident also hurried to the scene and caught the dramatic snap.
Nobody was injured in the incident, which happened at about 8.25pm on Thursday, June 23.
It remains unclear where the pair were headed or what trouble they hit in the air over the area that made them take the drastic action.
Their aircraft has since been removed from the field. The Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB), which looks into civil aircraft accidents and serious incidents, has launched an inquiry.
A spokesman said: “It is an ‘investigation by correspondence’, which means we’re looking at it through e-mails and calls with the pilot rather than sending a team of inspectors.
“Once those are concluded, it will be published as part of one of our monthly bulletins.
“As it only happened a few weeks ago, it could be a couple of months before the report is published on this one.”
