Mechanics one win for glory

-

Forres Mechanics forward Scottmoore has littlememory of the last time his hometown team won the Highland League title as he was just a toddler.

The 28-year-old plumber, who has played an integral part in the CanCans’ quest to bring the championship flag to Mosset Park for the first time since 1986, is hoping today’s trip to Fraserburgh will be something to remember.

Forres can clinch the title with victory and Moore said: “We knew after we beat Turriff United on Wednesday night a win over Fraserburgh would get us the title, but we’re taking nothing for granted.

“I was born and bred in Forres, so it would be fantastic if we were to lift the league title, a real dream come true. It was vital that we managed to win at Turriff in midweek.

“We left it late, but it was ahugethree points forusas we didn't want to go into our final two matches against the Broch and Keith knowing that we had to win both to clinch the title.

“If we had scored early on at Turriff I think we would have gone on and won fairly convincingly. If we had put away the chances we created I’m sure we would have been ahead of Cove Rangers on goal difference.

“If we beat Fraserburgh tomorrow we don’t have to worry about the game against our bogy side Keith on Wednesday night, or about goal difference.”

He added: “We know that the Fraserburgh game will be far from easy, butwe are pretty strong at home. Keith are the only ones to have beaten us at Mosset Park.

“We have all to play for and, hopefully, we can pick upthe three points to see us over the finishing line and give our wonderful fans something to celebrate.”

Fraserburgh manager Kris Hunter is in defiant mood.

He said: “We’re certainly not going along just to make up the numbers.

“Any team I manage always goes out to win games and this trip tomosset Park is no exception.

“It is a huge game for Forres. I watched them at Turriff onwednesdaynight and on the evidence of that performance they look a really powerful side. We know our own strengths.

“No one gets an easy gameagainst ourselvesand I'm sure Forres wouldn’t have relished their two final games being against us and Keith, both of us former champions in recent years.”

Hunter added: “The title is for Forres to lose. We also

want to finish the season on a high.”

Fo r r e s are at full strength, while the Broch will be without central m i d f i e l d e r Johnny Chalmers, injured midfielder Mark Cowie and suspended centre half Bryan Hay. There is also a doubt over goalkeeper Paul Leask, who only returned from abroad late last night.
