West beat East in opener

Defending champions West Lothian picked up the opening-day points after their 85- 69 win over East Lothian at Livingston, as the Jack High Insurance National League got under way.

Last year’s beaten finalists Falkirk top SectionAof the Premier Division by one shot after they returned from Coatbridge with an 8770 win.

In Section B, Perth lead the standings by 15 shots ahead of secondplac­ed Aberdeen.

Perth chalked up the biggest win of the day with a 96-69 home win over Alloa thanks to Doug Lambert’s 34-10 win over Alex Morrison with Dick Brown adding a 23-15 win over Bruce Ramage, while Aberdeen won via rinks skipped by Gary Forbes, Stevie Thompson and Mike Stephen with only Kevin Pirie missing out in their 79-64 win over Lanarkshir­e.

Stonehaven’s Daniel Colvin and Paul Hay won the North Section qualifier of the National Two Bowls pairs championsh­ip at Fraserburg­h yesterday and will now line up in the semi-finals at Falkirk in January.

The Stonehaven duo won all their matches in straight sets.
