Simpson 11th out of 4,000
Banchory’s Robbie Simpson finished 11th from a field of 4,000 in Saturday’s Jungfrau mountain marathon at Interlaken, Switzerland.
Keny a ’ s Ge o f f r e y Ndungu completed the 26.2-mile uphill course, which included 1,700metres of climbing, in 2hr 50min 28sec, while Eritrea’sPetroMamowassecond in 2:52:49.
Switzerland’s Viktor Rothlin, the2010European marathon champion, who was making his mountain racing debut, gave the home crowd something to cheer when he finished third in 2:53:21 whileSimpson was the leading Briton when recording 3:08:19.
DonnieMacDonald won Saturday’s Golspie 10km. The Inverness Harriers club member, who has been struggling with a niggling calf injury, clocked 34min 13sec to finish in front of Ian Fraser who took the over-40 age-group prize when finishing second in 36:17.
Sheila Gollan ( East Sutherland) took the women’s prize in 41: 14 while Hilary Cameron was the leading veteran, second overall, in 42:39.
Balmoral race champion Liam Barnsby ( East Sutherland) won the secondary schools boys’ 3km in 10:12 while his clubmate LaurenMcCullochwasfirst girl in 12:08.
Davy Munro (Ron Hill Cambuslang Harriers) scored his third win in a row, and eighth in total, when defeating a field of 161 in Saturday’s Aberdeen Parkrun 5km.
The Aberdeen- based runner recorded 16min 33sec to finish 24sec ahead of Adam Peters (Shettleston Harriers) with James Adamson third in 17:26.
Kayleigh Jarrett (Metro Aberdeen) set a personal best 20: 03 to win the women’s race while Louise Dytch finished runner-up in 21:37 in her debut run in the series while Elizabeth Kerr(Metro Aberdeen) was third in 22:24.
Andrew Clark (Giffnock North) won Saturday’s Inverness Parkrun, clocking 17:28 to finish well clear of Jonny MacLeod who was second in 18:17 and Finlay MacLennan who was a further eight seconds behind in third position.
Rhona Grant was first womanin 20:15 with Susan McRitchie (Forres Harriers) taking second place in a personal best 20:53 while 39-times previous winner Morag MacPherson was third in 21:29.
