Watson saves day for Lossie

-

Lossie will be in today’s Scottish Cup second round draw but a goal-less game left Coasters’ manager Stevie Dunn frustrated.

He said: “It was not good enough. You would have thought Culter were the Highland League side and we were the juniors. Our display was just not acceptable.”

Things could have been even worse for the Coasters as Jamie McAllister had a spot kick saved and Dunn added: “It was never a penalty kick . Grant Mitchell has stuck his leg out, the Culter player was smart and dived over it but it was a great save from our goalkeeper Errol Watson.

“There is no point going to Culter and thinking we are going to get beat, weare going there to win.

“We heard them in their changing room saying they are going to batter us. Our lads are not happy at hearing

shouts like those – so we’ll see what happens.”

Despite failing to take several chances, Culter manger Andy Gibson is confident his men can defeat Lossie with home advantage. He said: “We had more of the ball without really creating a lot. Jamie McAllister has missed a penalty but it was actually a really good save.

“We had Lossie watched twice so we knew they would sit-in and try to hit us on the break.”

Culter were the better side for the majority of the first half and would have taken the lead if it weren’t for the heroics of Lossie goalkeeper Watson.

He reacted well to knock away McAllister’s pointblank header before denying the same player from the penalty spot.

When Ian Leith burst into the Lossie penalty area referee Graham Beaton adjudged Mitchell had brought him down. McAllister fired the spot kick to Watson’s right, but the former Insch goalkeeper pulled off a stunning save to maintain parity.
