-

Maud and New Elgin joined Banks o’ Dee in the last four of the Grill League Cup.

But Inverness City’s penalty shoot-out jinx continued as they were pipped by Maud after twice coming from behind over 90 minutes.

The Buchan side went two in front in the opening five minutes, but City refused to buckle. Former Clach attacker Steven Sanderson opened up the tie with a well taken double but a mistake at the back allowed the visitors in to restore their lead.

In his first appearance of the season Michael MacKenzie equalised again for City, the only goal in the secondhalf. However, there was to no further scoring and Alan Kerr was to be the unlucky home player to miss the crucial spot kick.

NewElgin came through comfortably against Sunnybank who ended up with eight men after three were ordered off. Marc Connolly netted a double for the Moray side with Andy Munro and Stewart Magettrick also on target.

In the Regional Cup, Buckie Rovers were the only north winners, a double from Mike Wood and one from Mark Wood seeing them through against Buchanhaven Hearts. Calum Innes’ goal put Hall Russell through at Nairn St Ninian with Steven Stuart getting the consolation for Fochabers in their defeat at East End.

There was a comfortable Superleague victory for Deveronside at home to Banchory St Ternan with five players finding the net, Stuart Flett, Jamie Blackhall, Wayne Murdo, Chris Blackhall and Ewan Clark with a penalty. The Banff team are third in the table, but with a game more played than the leading two sides Dyce Juniors and Hall Russell United.

Islavale were the leading scorers in Division 1 (West) as they surprised leaders Portgordon Victoria 5-1. David Blackhall’s first-half goal put his team in at the interval a goal to the good. Kevin Collins added a second just before Blackhall grabbed his second. Scott Mair reduced the leeway for the visitors with a 74th minute spot kick, but two late goals by Roy McPherson and Mark Hector rounded it off for Islavale.

Burghead Thistle are in fourth after recording a 3-1 win at Whitehills. James McLaren ( 2) and Kyle Stewart were on target for Thistle while Ross Gibb got the Whitehills goal.

Matty Fraser and Lee Davidson’s goals for Forres Thistle got the better of Dufftown whose counter came from Sam Harrison.
