Ball had to be taken to hospital after the match

- Terry Butcher

Agame like that certainly isn’t good for my heart. I asked the players to put up their hands if they thought they played well and not one of them did – I think that sums it up.

I am always delighted when we win but it certainly wasn’t one of our most fluent performances this season.

We have to give credit to Kilmarnock because they didn’t let us play in the second half.

They put us under a lot of pressure and had a lot of possession, although Dean Brill didn’t have much to do in the second half.

It was more of a resilient, gritty, hard-fought game and I would have loved to have played in that myself. The ball had to be taken to hospital after the match because it was so battered and bruised.

Sometimes you can’t play the fluent way that you want to play. We have got players who love to play and get the ball down on the ground, but Kilmarnock put us under pressure and really played for their manager.

The timing of Billy’s goal was crucial. They had just got the equaliser and the ascendancy was with them. Whether it was onside or not, we will have to wait and see but Billy was adamant he was onside. The service he got in the second half was awful but he made the most of it and worked his socks off.

In my talk before the game, which turned out to be a complete waste of time, I had spoken about the apps you get on mobile phones. They always need updating and I asked the lads what will we need to update from our win against Hearts.

We asked the players to be ruthless, pass the ball better and score more than the opposition.

I think we updated the wrong thing, but what we did show was more toughness.

We will have a look and try to update it again for the Aberdeen match.
