Ross County manager Derek Adams is focused on finishing in seventh place in the Scottish Premiership this season and has no doubt his side can avoid the league’s play-off position.

With only five games of the campaign remaining the Dingwall club are in ninth position in the table, a point above secondbottom Partick Thistle and just three behind Hibs in seventh. Relegated Hearts, St Mirren and Kilmarnock make up the bottom six.

County’s upturn in form since the start of 2014 is evidence the Victoria Park club should target moving up the table instead of being concerned about the teams below them reckons Adams.

The Staggies are expected to take more than 500 supporters to already relegated Hearts on Saturday and the County manager is encouraged at the impact made by his January recruits.

He said: “They are all big games coming up until the end of the season as we aim for seventh position.

“It is wide open and we have a good run in. Wehave done well since January, we have five wins, five draws and five losses.

“We are in good form and we need to take that into the last five games.

“Our target is to finish with a good points total in seventh.”

Adams is confident his players can cope with a hectic run in as County enter the final hurdles of a long and demanding season.

He added: “We want it to be a good finish to the season and there are a lot of

tough games to come for all the teams. Wins are vital at this stage as it can move us into a very good position.

“It is very competitive, as these games involve teams which can finish between seventh and 11th.

“It is the kind of competition and excitement we want going into the last five games of the season.

“All the teams will believe they are more than capable of staying away from the play-off position – we have to go out and prove we can do it.”
