However, three minutes later Reid could do nothing whenVale opened the scoring. Colin Charlesworth's cross pickedout his brother Martin and he nodded the ball high past Reid into the roof of the net for his 14th goal of the season.

The goalscorer had the ball in the Locos' net again in the 23rd minute, but this time the former Buckie Thistle forward was clearly offside.

A sweet- flowing Vale move involving both Charlesworth brothers and midfielder Craig Cowie was only broken up by a timely interception by Ross Anderson.

Just before the break Fyfe was brought into action when he tipped a Neil McLean 25-yard free kick over the top. The second half followed the same pattern as the first with Locos looking lacklustre.

Martin Bavidge stooped to head a McLean cornerkick towards goal but once again the Vale defence cleared confidently.

Inthe 65thminuteDavid Ross passed up a glorious chance to pull Locos level, with the goal gaping he volleyed high over the crossbar from 10 yards.
