Inverness West Link project
SIR, – Your story and editorial Comment (November 10) highlighted the potential disaster of option six in the Inverness West Link project.
Public opinion is ignored by the administration, for reasons that can only be guessed.
Your editorial Comment confirms that the outcome of this matter should reflect the wishes of the community, but the community is disenfranchised by the party machines, who refuse any meaningful assessment of public wishes.
An opinion poll confirmed that 85% of Invernessians were against the destruction of their riverside and parklands. An online petition had 2,000 people prepared to register their objection, with a further 2,000 on Facebook and 400 objections to the planning application authorising the birth of this monster.
Public meetings have been very well attended and endorsed the opposition.
There is nothing else that the community can do to demonstrate their overwhelming opposition. Your editorial Comment asked: “Has the case been made to the satisfaction of the majority?” The answer is a resounding “No”, but the whipped votes in the chamber can, and do, disenfranchise the people. RIP democracy.
