Airport expansion options weighed up

Boris Johnson. He and his team will have to decide just where a new runway will be built, with the recommendation to government coming in the commission’s final report next summer. The options are:

Anew3,500m runway at Heathrow airport in west London.

An extension of the existing northern runway at Heathrow in a plan put forward by Heathrow Hub, a consortium that includes former Concorde pilot Jock Lowe.

A new r u nway at Gatwick airport in west Sussex.

The optionswereput forward in an interim report from the commission in December 2013 – a publication that has provoked a war of words between rival airports Heathrow and Gatwick.
