Man down but Golspie are good enough for point

-

NORTH FOOTBALL

Golspie Sutherland held on for a 3-3 draw against North Caledonian League leaders Orkney at King George V Park despite playing with a man short for most of the match.

The home side were reduced to 10 men in the eighth minute when Jordan Sutherland was shown a red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity.

Mark Berry scored at the second attempt after Golspie goalkeeper Steve Campbell saved the initial effort from the spot.

But the 10 men rallied and after James Murray struck the crossbar Alan Larnach headed home a Kyle MacLean cross at the back post on the half hour to square matters.

Golspie took the lead five minutes later when Larnach was on target again when he swept home another MacLean delivery.

The home side stretched their lead in the 55th minute when Shaun Kerr scored from close range following another MacLean assist.

But a late assault on the Golspie goal rescued a point for the islanders.

Erick Bews headed one back in the 80th minute and with a couple of minutes left on the clock Stephen Budge raced clear to net.

In the other match, Halkirk United cruised to a 5- 0 win against Alness United at Dalmore Park.

Murray MacKintosh helped himself to two of his side's goals, while Ian MacKay, Gordon MacNab and Scott Bell were also on target for the Anglers. FIXTURES – SATURDAY
